COVENANT POINT HEALTH INFORMATION PAGE

Weekly Medical Personnel and Health Center
A qualified, approved medical person (Camp Health Office) as outlined by the State of Michigan is in charge of health  service needs each week of camp. That person will live in the Health Center on site and be at the camp from 4:00pm  Sunday through 10:00am Saturday. When the majority of campers leave the camp for any field trip this medical person  will accompany them.
A local Iron River physician is on-call and available for consultation 24 hours a day.
The Health Center has two separate sleeping areas, a handicap accessible bathroom,  a locked exam and storage  room with a refrigerator for keeping supplies, first aid items, over-the-counter drugs and medications. It also has a  phone and availability of a radio to communicate with the island. The CHO has lodging in the same building in order to  easily monitor camper needs.

Parent Notification
As a matter of camp policy parents/guardians of campers will be notified in the following situations:
  1.  whenever it is determined by the camp staff that the camper should see a physician.
  2.  whenever a camper has been hospitalized.
  3.  whenever emergency treatment has been obtained.
  4.  whenever the camper has been sick for more than a 24-hour period and/or the camper's temperature    exceeds 102F.
  5.  whenever staff feel that parental advise or consent is needed.

Medical Storage and Administration
The Camp Health Office dispenses all medication and maintains a medical log of all campers seen during      the week. First aid supplies are located throughout the camp. An AED is ready for use in the main office. All  staff who work directly with campers are current in CPR.

Health Forms
All campers must have a recently completed Point health form upon arrival for registration.  This  form  must be signed by a parent or guardian.  The State of Michigan does not require a completed  physical exam signed by a doctor or nurse. Campers must also have insurance information and the  signed parental release statement on the health form giving limited power of attorney so that we are  able to secure emergency treatment for your child in the event that you cannot be reached.

Phone Calls and Visits
Visits by family and friends during the camp week are prohibited because this creates scheduling problems and conflict with camp  programming. Emergency phone calls will be received at the camp office, 906.265.2117.  Please do not promise your children that  you will talk with them during their time at camp. This practice, though comforting to the parent, almost always promotes or  increases feelings of homesickness. Campers are not permitted to call home, so please encourage your camper to send mail to you  as an alternative.
