The Island-CPBC

"The island feels like my home and that's why I love going there and I hate leaving."  (islander, 2008)

What a unique adventure a week at the island gives to young people.   From the moment campers step off the pontoon boat onto our eight water-bound acres, there is no doubt they are somewhere unusual.   The island is completely    separate from the mainland community and the rest of the world.   It is one of the most unique communities for Junior High youth to live in for a week.

"Island Prayer:  Thank you God for the new friends I've made and the things I've learned.  It has made a huge difference.  I'm so glad I came."  (islander, 2008)

Islanders have their own style of singing around the camp fire.    The Mountain Dew swing is a top favorite and promises a great     ride with a wet landing.

Islanders have commented on the "family" feeling they experience during their week in this special place.     The raft becomes the hub of action on a warm summer day.

What is the Island all about?

Islanders come together on their own 8 acre island on Hagerman Lake for a week long experience to learn more about God and gain an appreciation for the natural environment around them.   Without the comforts of home, campers learn that life can be simple and uncomplicated as they go through the week.   The island offers lots to do for this 6th through 9th grade age group.  Doing team building activities, high ropes challenges, big group island games, the Tarzan swing, zip line and dew swing, preparing meals, doing dishes, and sleeping in tents plus gathering at the camp fire each night for singing and talking all adds up to lots of fun and lots of learning.  Time to hang out together, laughing and talking, is also greatly appreciated by islanders.  Once you spend a week of the island, you will never forget the experience!  Islanders are a very unique group.

tents

There are glorious natural sights seen from the island--along with loons calling at all hours of the night.    Campers sleep in platform tents, each having a metal bunkbed and a mattress.
"All the staff was fun, they challenged me to be brave like on the high ropes course."  (2008)    " All the counselors and directors were awesome and the whole island week was amazing. " (2008)

Adventure is key to the Island program.  The Island boasts an expansive high and low ropes course, as well as a trust fall, climbing wall and Project Adventure's Vertical Playpen.  The Mountain Dew water swing and zip line make swimming on the Island exhilarating.

Leave watches, cell phones, and CD players at home because Islanders enjoy camp without those distractions.  Platform tents and gas lanterns, water from big jugs, and plenty of time to interact with your old and new friends, make for simple but memorable times on the island.  Despite leaving behind all the things we think are needed, each year islanders are excited to be a part of life at this special Covenant Point place.  Even those who were concerned they would not like it, come back for more.  Just ask one of the seasoned island campers.

" The island is a perfect place for people to get to know other Christians.  IT is also a great place to get your questions anwsered and to have lots of fun."  islander, 2008

WORSHIP

"The counselors really helped strengthen my faith.  Song and messages were very meaningful.  islander, 2008

Bible devotions and worship are important elements of the Island experience.  Campers hear the gospel, discuss Biblical issues and begin to create their own story of faith.  Holding only about twenty-five to thrity campers and six to seven staff each week, the Island is a close-knit community. Trust, encouragement and teamwork help form an amazing atmosphere where God can work in the lives of each camper individually.

"  My family and I cannot thank you enough for the experience my kids had on the island the week of July 20.  It is still a part of daily conversation at our dinner table."
